Have you been looking for some easy ways to start detoxifying your body?

When I started my healing journey, I was sick, tired and 60 pounds overweight.

Everything felt bleak… My inner critic kept telling me that I was going to be ‘fat and frumpy’ forever.

Despite my humble circumstances, there was another part of my spirit that was determined to turn my life around.

But I knew that I couldn’t do it alone. I was going to need a healing guide to help point me in the right direction.

I chose a naturopath and started working with her…

She shared with me that my body was naturally self-healing.

She also said that my job was to provide it with the nourishment and support that it needed to come back into balance.

I have to confess that I knew very little about natural health and healing in those days.

She introduced me to cleansing and detoxifying my body. It was like having a whole new world open up in front of my eyes.

I was so excited about the journey and threw myself into learning all I could.

And it worked! Within a few short years I had lost all my excess weight. I also healed my body of adrenal exhaustion, asthma and eczema. I share my story in my first book Losing Weight is a Healing Journey’.

So, if you are ready to boost your health and vitality, here are 5 easy ways to help you get started with cleansing and detoxifying your body…

1. Start with your breath.

We begin our lives by taking our first breath... It also happens to be a great place to start detoxifying.

Breathing is something that most of us just ‘do’. (I personally can’t remember getting a breathing lesson in those early moments…!  Can you?  :)

But what does it take to actually breathe properly?

Deep breathing can give our bodies a super-detoxifying boost. It can also help us manage and release stress naturally.

To experience this healing tool for yourself, find a quiet place at home or in nature and bring your attention to your breath.

Begin by slowly inhaling through your nose, allowing your belly to expand fully. Pause for a moment and then, exhale through your mouth until you have emptied your lungs completely.

Try this breathing exercise for 10 rotations to start with and notice how different you feel.

2. Drink lemon water.

One of the easiest ways to help your body with the cleansing process is by beginning each day with a glass of lemon water.

Lemon juice is naturally alkalizing and it also works wonders for digestion.

Drinking it first thing in the morning can help your body to gently kick start the cleansing and detoxification process.

Making lemon water is simple. All you need to do is pour yourself a big glass of filtered water and squeeze in the juice from 1/2 of a fresh lemon.

I like to drink my lemon water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

3. Drink fresh juice.

A great way to support your body’s natural process of detoxification is to drink freshly squeezed juices.

Drinking fresh juices will also help you to pep-up your vitamin and mineral intake.

And before you ask, you don’t need to buy the latest ‘whizz-bang’ juicer…

Keep in mind that ‘the best juicer is the one that you use!’

I focus mainly on simple vegetable juices like carrot or celery juice. If I’m in a creative mood I’ll pimp them up with some apple, lemon or even ginger for a bit of extra zing.

4. Eat real foods.

One of the biggest changes I made on my healing journey was to focus upon detoxifying my body with real foods.

Before my body breakdown, due to my busy lifestyle, I had been emotionally eating a lot of ‘fake foods’ typically whilst on the go.

These foods were heavily processed and contained many artificial ingredients that my body didn’t recognize.

Eating these foods would often leave me feeling sluggish and bloated. So I substituted them for real foods instead. And it made such a big difference to my health and vitality.

I said goodbye to crisps, chocolates and croissants and hello to soups, salads and smoothies.

Some of my favourite detoxifying real foods are beetroots, spinach, carrots, watermelon, apples, blueberries, watercress, parsley, garlic, ginger and turmeric.

5. Exfoliate with skin brushing.

Most of us are pretty familiar with the benefits of brushing our hair and teeth regularly, but have you ever considered brushing your skin?

Exfoliating with skin brushing is a great addition to any detox routine.

Brushing your skin activates your lymphatic system, helping the body to release and eliminate toxins through your pores.

You can purchase a natural skin brush or skin loofah online or from any good pharmacy or health food store.

And, it’s really easy to get started.

Just gently brush all over your skin in the direction of your heart for a couple of minutes before showering.

And now over to you...
